With over 20 years of experience in childcare and more than 15 years as an entrepreneur, DeShonda's passion for nurturing young minds and empowering families has been the driving force behind her successful ventures.
Beyond her role as an educator and childcare provider, DeShonda is a published author, captivating speaker, dedicated parent, and advocate for youth. She believes wholeheartedly in the power of community and the importance of support networks. Through her non-profit organization, she is committed to changing lives one woman and youth at a time, recognizing that it truly takes a village to create lasting positive change.

Our Philosophy
To show the love of God to each child regardless of age, race, ethnic origin, or creed. To provide a safe and happy environment for children. To relate to each child with courtesy, respect, patience, and affection. To reflect the standards set by the state. To provide age and developmentally appropriate experiences. To teach literacy, math, science, social skills fine and gross motor skills through meaningful play. To empower and equip children with skills needed in life and adulthood.
About Our Program
DJ's Shining Stars Daycare was founded in 2007 by DeShonda Jennings. We believe in learning through play. Our program is set up into learning centers. The centers are art, block play, math and manipulatives, literacy/cozy corner, science and nature, dramatic play, and music and movement. While children are engaging in play, the following skills will be taught: cognitive skills, vocabulary, social skills, problem-solving, and language development to name a few. Our school age room is set up with individual desks for each student. Headphones with microphones are provided for each student along with their individual supplies needed for success.

When I moved to Chesterfield in 2009, I didn’t have family or friends who lived in the area. But I had to find childcare for my two daughters for me to work a full-time job. I was introduced to DeShonda Jennings from “DJ’s Shining Stars”.
Everything was extremely professional. She welcomed my children and me with open arms. Her establishment was amazing and the setting was awesome. I felt a sense of ease while deciding if I would allow DeShonda to care for my daughters. It was the best decision that I made. In 2011, I had another daughter, and DeShonda was still available to care for my newborn so I could continue to work my full-time job. Not only did she take care of my daughters, but she also helped them with potty training, learning their ABC’s, learning how to read and write at such a young age, and she taught them respect. As a single mother, DeShonda has played a major role in my life as well as my kids. “DJ’s SHINING STARS” allowed my daughters to grow up in a school setting that prepared them for a real future!! Today they are 16, 13 and 8 years old and they still LOVE them some MISS DEEDEE!!!

My daughter Zee’s experience at DJ’s Shining Stars was great. It taught her manners and how to get along with others. The age-appropriate activities Mrs. Dee did with the children helped her so much when she entered PreK the teachers were amazed at how much she knew. She is now 10 and has made honor roll on every report card and has been recommended for advanced math as she will enter the sixth grade this year. Thanks, Mrs. Dee, for being a great 1st teacher to my daughter.

DeShonda has over 20 years’ experience in childcare and 15 plus years in Entrepreneurship. She is a firm believer that “It takes a Village”.
